Kate, a blogger belonging to the USA says in one of her blog
posts that “New books are easy to shop for. I can always find the latest and
greatest edition and I know that the book is in good condition without having
to see it in person.” (Kate, 2017). However, she adds that although buying a
new book is more convenient because one doesn’t have to worry about the quality
and the condition of the book, the cost of it is still a problem. A new book
costs way more than a used one and some people may not always have right budget
to get the new book all the time from the retailers like Amazon or Barnes and
nobles. She further states; “The greatest advantage of buying used is that it’s
a heck of a lot cheaper. At my favorite library sale, hardcovers cost just $2-3
apiece, a remarkable discount from the usual $15-25 that Amazon and other
popular Internet retailers charge.” She
says that though the hunt for a used book is difficult, but it is fun and one
gets to experience going through hundreds of different books and knowing that
these books once belonged to someone and many other people may have experienced
similar feelings.
It should be noted here that though for a few years, printed
books faced decreasing sales because of the introduction of E-books with
players like Amazon and Kindle offering great variety of books online, however, now the trend is changing yet again;
people are going back to buying the printer hard books. In the financial times
article ‘Books are back because Amazon likes them’, Gapper writes: “There are
signs of the book’s renaissance all around.
Waterstones, the UK book chain, returned to profit last year after
suffering six years of losses. Sales of
print books in the US rose by 3%, while those of E-Books have fallen.” (Gapper,
2017)
